About the Program:  Ilwaco High School Mariachi – Oro y Azul & Pescador
Ilwaco High School’s Mariachi program celebrates culture, diversity, and musical excellence through its two ensembles: Mariachi Oro y Azul and Mariachi Pescador.

Mariachi Oro y Azul, the advanced group, has performed at major cultural events, including El Grito, Día de los Muertos, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Cinco de Mayo. They made history as the first Washington school to compete at the nation’s largest high school Mariachi competition in San Antonio, Texas.

Mariachi Pescador, the developing ensemble, fosters musicianship and cultural pride, preparing students for advanced opportunities.

In 2024, Mariachi Oro y Azul qualified for the Washington State Solo & Ensemble Competition through SWWMEA, further cementing their reputation. This program continues to uplift students, honoring tradition while creating new musical legacies.

“Brands like Hohner, H. Jimenez, Jupiter, XO, Hercules, Mapex, and Sonor provide reliability, excellent craftsmanship, and accessibility—especially for school music programs like mine. These instruments help my students achieve their best sound, perform with confidence, and stay engaged in music. I value working with a company that shares my passion for making music education accessible and inspiring for all students.”
