About the Program: The Bruin Band is under the direction of Band Director Michael Lloyd and Asst. Director Jenei Peterson. In their first year of leadership Lloyd and Peterson guided the Marching Band to critical success in the 2022 Competitive season, including first place recognitions in music and percussion. From the 1980s through 2020 the Bruin Band had become synonymous with quality. In that time frame the Bruin Band made numerous appearances at the SCBDA state championships. In the concert world the program has numerous superior ratings including a superior in 2019, the last time the ensemble went to the SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment. It is this pedigree for success that this new leadership team looks to continue. The Bruin Band program offers a marching Ensemble, Concert Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. In the 2023-2024 school year the program will be adding a Jazz Ensemble and Steel Drum Band.
“We have come to value the quality of craftsmanship in the Jupiter, Mapex, and Majestic Product lines. Band Director Mike Lloyd has personally played on Mapex drums for roughly 15 years now ahd he can speak to the product longevity and durability. The Bruin Band program uses exclusively Jupiter sousaphones and tubas and well as some Quantum series low brass. In all cases we are continually pleased with the quality of tone we get from the instruments.”
