On Tuesday, December 16, 2014, a contestant by the name of Alysha Rooks on the TV game show Jeopardy offered words that are at once stunningly true and remarkably empowering. During a “Double Jeopardy” round, there were four clues for which no contestant had a correct answer – known as a “triple stumper” – for the category. None of the three contestants even had a guess for the $800, $1200, $1600, and $2000 questions. After that, let’s just say, embarrassing run of being completely and utterly stumped, Rooks stated a mantra for all of us, for each of our students, and for education in its purest form, when she said to the host, the late Alex Trebek, “Every day’s a school day, Alex.” Indeed, every day is a school day. A day to learn, to grow, to prosper, to develop, to strive, and to take stock in our growth, and the growth of those we are charged to teach, motivate, and inspire.
